Scientific Collaboration On Past Speciation Conditions in Lake Ohrid

2005     brd

During a field campaign in spring 2005 a ca. 10.5 m long sediment core was recovered from the southeastern part of Lake Ohrid using a UWITEC piston corer. Corer penetration was stopped by a 10-15 thick tephra originating from an eruption of the Phlegrean Fields near Naples ca. 40 000 years ago. In December 2005, 24 scientists from seven countries participated in a workshop at the University of Leipzig, Germany, in order to exchange informations of ongoing geological and biological research projects on Lake Ohrid. This workshop actually marked the start of tthe SCOPSCO project idea.
